Recording live programming, time-shifting… all operations managed by Windows Media Center that require a lot of disk space. In optimal quality, Media Center records your favorite programs, your favorite movies and whatever, in a format DVR-MS, which occupies several gigabytes, so the price of quality after all. But now, if you love this kind of operation, it would be interesting to define a new location for storage of larger capacity.

Windows Media Center can record the chain - oh the villain pun -- In a wink programs of his choice. The problem is that several hours of registration will quickly fill your hard disk (I guess because it is not just that neither!).

As a result, we will see a small tip to define a new storage location, for example, an external hard drive very practical for such operations while avoiding fragmentation of your hard principal. Another advantage of an external hard drive, you can take them where you want your recordings - and other multimedia content to transfer them to other computers very quickly and easily.

Petite recommendation, prefer an external hard drive with a Firewire port or e-Sata, the latter offering the advantage of being also a powerful internal hard drive.

Obviously, you can also add a second internal hard drive or partition the first.

Truce chatter, turn to action.

Start Windows Media Center accessible via the All Programs menu of the Start menu or simply by placing it into the search box.

Open the module located in the Settings menu Tasks.

Click on TV and then on TV Recorder and finally on storage of records.

We can only define the new location. For this, use the buttons - and + provided. They let you browse the various partitions - the same that appear in the Computer (Workstation).
In our example, we use the partition V (200 Go approximately) located on an external hard drive.
You are not obliged to use the entire disk space. To do so, specify a value to the buttons - and + as previously, these ranging in tranches of 25 GB

To validate the merger, click Save.

Finally, we must tell the software to analyse new location, the latter referring to the Recorded TV module.

If you have not lost since the last step, you are again in the menu Recorder TV. Click on a category therefore More locations TV.

Check therefore Add Folder to analyse and then Next.

Select the location you just define and confirm by clicking Next.

Windows Media Center informs you then adding a new folder. To confirm, click Finish.

As you would expect, we must also tell the program not to analyse the previous record unless it contains more records and you want them appear in the TV module registered.

To stop the analysis, go back to more locations TV then check Stop analyze a case and made Next. There, uncheck the files you want to stop the analysis and confirm by clicking on Next and Finish.

To complete it, you can also delete the file recorded TV, located on the site that we have to stop the analysis.

Attention, make sure that it no longer contains any important files - in which case it would be wiser to move to the new location of the file recorded TV.
