It is not always easy to burn its records TV or movies on a holiday DVD. Although Windows includes a utility designed for that purpose - Creating Windows DVD (DVD Maker), it will soon show its limitations. Moving up a gear with Nero 8!
In this tutorial, we'll see how to move from an MPEG file (or any other format, note that the dvr-ms is supported by Nero) to a 4.7 GB disc (whose real capacity s Students at about 4.3 GB). At first sight, nothing very complicated ... yet, it is common for a movie where the black bands are disproportionate, where the resolution is poor, and so on.
In fact, I often recommends using a DVD-RW that will allow different tests before etching (changing the aspect ratio, quality encoding, codecs used, etc.)..
That said, let without further delay to the heart of the matter.
Start with Nero 8 or start downloading a trial version at:
Download: Nero 8 (trial version)
In the list of applications available, click Nero Vision.
A window opens offering several different modules. In our case, choose Create a DVD-Video and DVD.
This option will allow us to create films that will be playable on most DVD players and computers. That's the difference with a simple DVD data files which are directly recorded onto the disc without hierarchy or particular format.
We must now add the video files. Here, several cases of figures are:
- Either you are in possession of video files stored on your hard disk or on a device;
- Either you are planning to acquire through your TV or your camcorder;
- Either you import from a disc or from the Web;
In our situation, we assume that video files are accessible from your computer. So click on Add video files. A Windows Explorer window opens asking you to find your videos to be imported. If you want to make changes to selected files, for example, remove the pages of advertisements in the case of a TV recording, choose Edit the film.
Once the files are imported and / or modified, click Next.
Nero now offers to add a menu. If you do not want it, select Do not create a menu from the dropdown menu to use. To validate your choice, do Next.
You can now view your entire production. This overview is used to verify that there are no problems of black bands or pieces of unwanted films. Again, when you have viewed the important moments that deserve verification click Next.
We will now begin the most interesting part but also the most important, namely, encoding.
By default, Nero selects the optimal settings without offering any choice. That does it: Click the More>> Options, then video. Visit the DVD-Video tab to fine tune the encoding of the DVD:
- First, in the section Encoding quality, choose Customize in quality parameters. Up to you to vary the bit rate to fill up the DVD (necessary because the size indicated on the screen), change the resolution knowing that the standard resolution is 720 x 576;
- As regards the encoding mode, choose an encoding High Quality (2 pass VBR) for rendering optimal;
- For the image format, leave on automatic unless the result does not meet your expectations which case, adjusted to the source file as it is in 4:3 or 16:9;
- As for the audio format, you may only hear the voices very low or some noise. This is due to a source file encoded in 5.1. So, if the automatic mode can not hear enough, choose a Dolby Digital (AC-3) 2.0 or stereo;
Validate the changes by clicking OK. It may be that Nero asks if you want to make these new settings. I do advise you not to do so, it is always good to have the default settings.
Forget the burning settings:
- Burn to ...: Select your burner. The option allows Image Recorder about it to create a disc image;
- Writing in a folder on the hard disk: useful if you want to save your production on your PC to burn thereafter;
- Name volume: name your DVD;
- Storage Settings: choose a speed corresponding to the capabilities of your burner and your DVD. Less burning speed, the lower the risk of errors is high. From experience, I prefer a speed of 4x. Check also calculated the maximum speed;
To validate it, click the Burn ... then wait long hours waiting depending on the power of your CPU. Needless to say, dual processors are particularly heart at ease on this kind of tasks that can carry these occupations virtual while encoding.
For information, is a Nero burning software suite but has over time developed multimedia (video editing, sound mixing, acquisition, etc.). For the general public. This extension of the dizzying offer long alleged but was highly appreciated by other users.
Reference or real gas plant, we must recognize that for many tasks, Nero is essential, although we think.

There are two functions: Split the element and Crop mode.
Split mode element can share in 2 parts video where the cursor is placed. You can split to 2 different locations to get a block that you can delete. To precisely adjust the slider, you can use the arrows up / down timer in advance by clicking on part time.
Cut mode is a bit more special. Start by clicking on the button-shaped chisel and then move pairs of scissors at the ends just below the preview screen. Once pairs of scissors positioned as desired, click the button-shaped chisel. This action will effectively remove the selected portion and create 2 new scenes outside the cut portion.
Cut this mode allows us to recreate deleted scenes after cutting themselves. To do this, simply resize the green arrows and gray below the preview screen.
Finally, whether to resize the movie ends, do the same as before moving the green arrows and gray according to his wishes.
Hoping to have simply responded to the question ... despite the length of the commentary
